.. Hands on LEICA M9 ..

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010 at about 5:48 pm

I had a chance to test new Leica M9 on New York Photo Festival. To be honest I’m not sure if I ever held Leica M in my hands before, so the reason to try was even bigger. There was contest for people who tested named “people” but I just wanted to see how it works and do couple of test shots. I’m not expert in testing cameras, I never did that too much.

I have to say I had some problems with focusing , because as you know, camera is rangefinder and you don’t look through the lens but next to it. And to help you focus you have split screen inside, as we used to have in old cameras. There is plastic thing on lens that also helps you focus faster, but I find it very unpractical. Every time I put camera on my shoulder  focus changed because it touched my body, so every time I wanted to be fast or prepared with focus it was totally off  when I needed. I really liked the lens angle. 35 mm is really perfect for street photography. (I’m usually using 20 mm on my camera but too wide, so 35 mm next purchase). Have to say Laica lens is really something that is sick sharp and colorful and saturated and…… perfect.

Camera with all the buttons works great as well. Buttons where you need them. They are using system hold and change as on old Canon EOS 1D, mk II. I had a little problems with camera grip. It is not the lightest camera and holding it without any special grip for your fingers is not the easiest thing. I believe that film ones are much lighter.

So that would be super short review. If you want you can download original image, with clicking on image. I was surprised that there is no metadata for aperture. But You have info that I remember from shooting it.

Small image, just to show myself with camera :)

First image where I was trying to see how depth of field works. It is super sharp on shoes, and everything else looks perfect, and on the edges also looks great. Probably fully opened aperture, 2.5..

I was focusing bridge and hat fully open aperture, so people in front are unsharp on purpose.

.. on this one I was trying to see how shadows in the building will look like. They look good :-)

.. Bad Buka Night Out ..

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 at about 8:17 am

Last night I was invited to bar concert of Bad Buka music band , Gipsy Punk Rock as they would say. They are all great musicians full of energy that you can definitely feel while listening. Jumping, screaming, fast rhythm,  slow rhythm, trumpets,.. We also spent the rest of the night together and it was great.. I made a couple of really nice portraits that night. I always find myself with my slow 50mm lens, keeping the fast one at home when I would need it the most. Light was incredibly low and I was struggling with Hi Iso and low shutter speeds. At the end some focus is not as great as I would wish but the energy on photo just beats up that..

Last couple of days NY was full of marines.. Young boys trying to have some fun..

“Leave in NYC once, but leave before it makes you hard” Sun Screen, Baz Luhrman says

Start of the Bad Buka !

Me and Guy did not even realize that we have famous actor in between..

Bad Buka Marines Fan Club..

That was hilarious.. four drunk girls just dropped down one after another, hahaha

F train on the way back home can be very interesting photo experience..

.. Brasil in Five Days ..

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 at about 5:35 pm

At the start of this week I went to Brasil for a 3 day job with Frederic Lagrange. We did a story about U.S. couple that are producing delicious coffee in hills of  Taquaritinga. Every day we ate delicious food, and time spent there was amazing although we had to walk all day around. Unfortunately my camera was out only while driving from and to airport, so mostly photos are made from car, what makes them even more interesting I think. Yesterday we went to airport to go back to NY, but we had problems on airport, we were suspicious that we are caring drugs.. soooo the day got much longer, we missed the flight and I had great opportunity to have an extra day in Recife.. I just walked on the beach.. It was not the most exciting beach I ever saw but was good enough to fill the extra day spent here..

Super drive with Bingi to locations !

Me and Mister Frederic !

Reminds me of Africa !

This Guy just lost the full tank of gas :-) ) was funny to see his disappointed face !

Great name for a Hotel..

I wonder what you do in there !

Majlo, Kroks.. Are you thinking what I’m thinking ?? :-)

Loud speakers everywhere !

.. Don’t want to swim in this water !

Beach of Recife..

Thongs of Recife !

.. Bear “mountain” ..

Monday, May 10th, 2010 at about 11:27 pm

Me and my two roommate, Atsushi and Jean-Guy, went on small hiking in Bear Mountain Park. We spent a night in wildness. We had great dinner around fire and excellent breakfast. And on a way home we practiced slack line for a while. It was great escape from dusty New York City.

Looking for the right way !

It was not very high in mountains, but still some parts of trail had great views !

Preparing famous “turtles”

Yuuuuumi !

And again Yuuuumi !

We were experimenting a little, and woke up Atsushi !

Oatmeal breakfast, very camping breakfast on rainy morning..

I actually did 2 steps..

.. Nina again ..

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 at about 7:44 pm

It’s been a while.. I guess everyone has similar post on their own blogs once a while. It was my time now. I wasn’t much productive lately except my busy thoughts.. about new project I have to start, about my own promotion here on the biggest market, NEW YORK.. But first things first.. I’m showing you second part of the photos I did for Nina Osenar’s music album.. As I said last time, very random photos, no story that connects them,  except Nina on all of them, trying to be as sexy as possible… I promise It wont be more than a week until next time :)

.. D ..

Sunday, March 14th, 2010 at about 8:33 pm

.. it’s been a while ago I did this photo .. it was made for the big dancing show that Slovenian Association of Disabled Students, with Daniela on the head, were working on .. It was never published as it should be, but anyway we had a lot of fun that couple of hours in studio .. especially trying to lift Daniela almost two meters high to the studio platform, but we did it .. Daniela was very passionate about dancing, beauty .. she knew everything about fashion .. she was in love with it .. I’ll never forget the time we spend together .. very happy moments .. we all miss her !

..s.r..

Monday, February 15th, 2010 at about 1:05 am

I’m going through archive, looking for material for my new web page. I found this image which was a part of annual fashion catalogue. And I think this is the best photo I ever take of Sabina Remar. So easy, so still, so straight .. but expression on the face is great, exactly what I wanted. I’ve worked with Sabina many times and every time it is easier, she knows what I want and that makes it easier every time and better of course. Dress was made by Damiana Biteznik Logar..

Reed Young – portrait

Friday, February 12th, 2010 at about 8:35 am

Reed Young is young american photographer, just returned to NY. Last 4 years he spend in Italy, working and learning in famous Fabrica. His portraits are great inspirations to me. I had idea of photographing him with his most used strobe light.. small but so useful if you know how to use it. He knows. Check some of his work on his web site  www.reedyoung.com

Nina Osenar Missunderstood

Monday, February 8th, 2010 at about 10:40 pm

I did a great photo shoot for new album of singer Nina Osenar. The idea was to make a lot of different photos, so that every page would be story for itself. So there is no bigger story behind the photos. Single images only. At first I was not that happy with that, but I was really surprised when I got the album in my hands. I think album has 28 pages.. so plenty of space for images.. and that I like :-) Well more photos will come, as soon as media will publish them. Soon I promise…

Tabu – 42

Monday, November 30th, 2009 at about 6:07 pm

Last sunny and worm day this year I’ve used for a urgent shooting for music group Tabu from Slovenia. Album title is 42, but underline title is “meaning of life, universe and everything else” .. They didn’t have any idea for a photo shoot and we had just a couple of days to set up everything. I remembered what people are doing when they have big questions in their lives and want some answer.. THEY TRAVEL ! So we started talking about getting a great, nice looking old car and make the photo shoot look like a travel.. Photos were made with a lot of empty spaces and out of focus parts so the designer could use this for texts ..

We had only a couple of hours of sun but I’m happy with what we did ..

Thank you TABU for bringing all the stuff you were told to bring .. :-)

Thanks to great assistants Ziga Mihelic and David Mark Erickson

.. exhibition comming soon ..

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009 at about 9:07 pm

First photoshooting for exhibition that I’m working on with Damiana B. Logar and Natasa Logar for Month of Design in Ljubljana. Exhibition will be in Jakopiceva gallery in Oktober. The first idea was to make models look very plastic and make shoots in low key, using mixed lightning to make them a little more dynamic with longer shutter speed. I’m planing to print photos on 70 × 100 cm and blurry parts like the one on third photo will look much better than here on small one, when it’s hard to say if the photo is sharp.Designer: DFD Damjana Biteznik LogarMake up: Natasa LogarHair: Ana Marc KumerModel: Barbara ..
